I thought you would like to know a little of what our fighters have been up to and what we will be doing!


Sept/Oct 08- We sent a Malaysian Muaythai Contingent to the IFMA Muaythai World Championships in Busan, Korea.
Here Khoo Meng Yang brought back a bronze medal for Malaysia.

December 5
Bernard & Ali partcipated in the Thai King's Cup-where both our fighters won their respective fights. It was here that Bernard qualified for his place in Contender Asia 2. Ali and Bernard were honoured to be the first Malaysian's to ever participate in this event.


Dec 08, Jan, Feb, March 09-Our newly created Malaysian Tigers Team attend intensive training at WMC Lamai in Koh Samui, Thailand.
- Our Malaysian Tigers participated in many fights at Chaweng Stadium in Koh Samui.



Jan 12- Faizal beats German reality show celebrity and Boxing Champ-Tony Chaweng. Ali also wins his fight against Pornprom Sorruangsawat.


February 7/8- Boxxwarriors Event in Cheras- Faizal beat Abbas Ahmadi, Zeri beat Iddi Selindang Kuning and Hamdan is defeated by Tengku Shahrizal.

March 21st-Ali is sent to Australia to fight Flip Street in Gold Coast Australia. Ali is defeated by a visibly bigger and heavier Flip but he earned the Australian's respect and has been called back to Australia to fight.

March 15- WMC Gym Malaysia is opened and now serves as base camp fot the Malaysian Tigers.


April 24th-We organized the Contender Asia 2 Malaysian Qualifier in Kota Bharu to choose Malaysia's 2nd representative to CA2.

MAY- 9th-15th of May, our athletes attended the Arafura Games in Darwin, Australia.

We have just come back from Darwin Australia, where 6 of our athletes participated in these Amateur Championships!

JULY-11-17th of July. Our representatives will be attending an international IFMA Khan Degree seminar in Germany.

AUGUST- 1st. The Asian Martial Arts Games will be held in Bangkok.

OCT-NOV-30th Oct- 8th Nov we will be participating at the Indoor Asian Games at Vietnam.


NOVEMBER-IFMA World Championships in Bangkok. Winners in this event will qualify to participate in the 2010 GAISF /Sportaccord Martial Arts Martiad in Beijing.


NOVEMBER-We will be conducting instructors courses for all those interested in teaching Muaythai in Malaysia.

Faizal siku emas

JIKA jaguh gusti Steve Austin digelar Stone Cold, Mohd Faizal Ramli, 20, pula diberi gelaran The Golden Elbow atau Siku Emas.

Gelaran itu bukan calang-calang atau mainan kerana ia bukan diberi oleh ahli keluarga atau rakan sekampung, sebaliknya ia pengiktirafan oleh peminat sukan Muay Thai atau tomoi di peringkat antarabangsa, sinonim dengan kepakaran Faizal menggunakan kedua-dua sikunya sebagai senjata utama untuk menundukkan lawan.

Lawannya pula bukan setakat peninju tomoi di dalam negara tetapi siku emas Faizal juga sudah menumbangkan jaguh tomoi Thailand, Australia dan beberapa negara Mat Saleh lain.

Awal tahun ini, Faizal menumbangkan peninju tomoi dari Jerman untuk menjulang kejuaraan kejohanan World Muay Thai Championship (WMC) 2009 di Bangkok, Thailand.

Itulah kehebatan anak kelahiran Kampung Gong Kua, Pasir Puteh, Kelantan itu. Ibarat mengesahkan kehebatannya, Faizal terpilih mewakili Malaysia untuk rancangan realiti televisyen The Contender Asia 2 (TCA2) yang bermula Jun depan.

Dia terpilih selepas mengalahkan 18 peserta tempatan lain yang turut mencuba nasib dalam pertandingan Kejohanan Tomoi Super 8 di Kompleks Belia dan Sukan Kelantan, April lalu.

Ditanya perasaannya sebagai anak Malaysia pertama yang bakal menyertai program TCA2, Faizal berkata, dia sangat teruja dan bersemangat untuk mengharumkan nama Malaysia, sekali gus membuktikan peninju tomoi kita sama hebat dengan jaguh negara lain, termasuk Thailand.

"Bagi saya, peninju tomoi kita kini sama taraf dengan peninju luar, termasuk Thailand. Memang mereka (peninju Thailand) diberi lebih banyak pendedahan kerana dilatih sejak kecil.

"Bagaimanapun, peninju kita juga ada kelebihan tersendiri. Hasil pembabitan saya dalam kejohanan di luar negara, secara keseluruhan peminat dan peninju tomoi dari serata dunia kini menggeruni dan mengakui kehebatan peninju kita," katanya.

Menceritakan sejarah pembabitannya dalam sukan tomoi, Faizal berkata, pada awalnya dia bercita-cita menjadi pemain bola sepak profesional.

Namun, minatnya bertukar kepada sukan tomoi selepas ayahnya, Ramli Yusuff, 48, yang juga bekas juara tomoi era 1980-an membawanya menonton satu perlawanan tomoi di Rantau Panjang, Kelantan.

Pada awalnya, Faizal menyimpan wang saku sekolahnya untuk membeli cakera padat video (VCD) perihal latihan asas sukan tomoi dan menontonnya di rumah rakan.

Ini kerana pada ketika itu ibunya, Faridah Ishak, 40, tidak merestui dia mengikut jejak ayahnya berikutan sukan itu dianggap bahaya.

Sampai satu peringkat, Faizal tidak puas hanya berlatih dengan menonton VCD, lalu dia berguru dengan sifu tomoi, Mohd Isa Sulaiman, 59, yang secara kebetulan membuka kelab tomoi dikenali sebagai 'Black Tiger' di kampungnya.

"Saya memperuntukkan masa dua jam sehari untuk belajar tomoi, termasuk 'jogging' mengelilingi kampung sejauh 10 kilometer, selain melakukan senaman menguatkan otot dan tumbukan angin sebanyak 100 kali sehari," katanya.

Faizal berkata, selepas menguasai latihan asas, dia diajar melakukan tumbukan dan hentakan siku terhadap guni berisi pasir kasar seberat 100 kilogram (kg) sebanyak 500 kali sehari.

Namun, paling memeritkannya ialah latihan menguatkan bahagian keting (tulang kering) dan betis apabila dia diminta Mohd Isa melakukan sepakan terhadap sebatang tiang bulat sebanyak 200 kali sehari.

"Akibatnya, keting saya bengkak dan ibu pula nampak. Namun bila ibu tanya, saya beri alasan jatuh kerana bermain bola sepak.

"Saya bukan sengaja berbohong atau hendak menderhaka kepada ibu, tetapi terpaksa berbuat demikian kerana minat yang terlalu mendalam terhadap sukan tomoi.

"Yang seronoknya, ayah tidak melarang, sebaliknya memberitahu, jika saya betul-betul berminat dengan tomoi, jangan berhenti separuh jalan tapi perlu teruskan sehingga sampai ke puncak," katanya.

Selain Faizal, abang, Suhaimi, 22, dan adiknya, Mohd Faizul, 17, turut terbabit dalam permainan sukan tomoi, namun pembabitan mereka berdua masih di peringkat awal.

Faizal berkata, tomoi ada kaitan rapat dengan sukan tinju, namun bezanya ialah tomoi membenarkan penggunaan kaki, lutut dan siku manakala tinju hanya menggunakan tumbukan.

Kejohanan pertama yang disertai Faizal ialah ketika berusia 15 tahun selepas selesai menduduki Peperiksaan Menengah Rendah (PMR).

"Namun, saya sembunyikan perkara itu daripada ibu. Agak mengejutkan kerana saya jadi juara walaupun berdepan lawan lebih berpengalaman. Kejayaan pertama itu sungguh bermakna buat diri saya.

"Ia menambah pengalaman saya dan mengajar saya mengawal ketahanan mental. Bila ada dalam gelanggang, anak muay (tomoi) perlu mengawal marah dan patuh setiap peraturan," katanya.

Menjelang TCA 2, Faizal kini giat menjalani latihan bersama rakan sepasukannya, Bernard 'Headhunter' Radin, 37, dari Sarawak di Gymnasium Lamai di Koh Samui, Thailand, selama sebulan.

Penerbit Eksekutif TCA, Riaz Mehta, berkata rancangan realiti musim kedua itu lebih menarik untuk tatapan rakyat Malaysia kerana ia bukan saja memiliki wakil Malaysia, tapi negara kita menjadi tuan rumah dan tempat penggambaran bermula Jun depan hingga perlawanan akhir pada Januari 2010.

"Pemilihan Malaysia sebagai tuan rumah kepada siri popular yang disaksikan oleh 500 juta penonton dari 40 buah negara ini adalah kerana landskap sesuai untuk latihan serta jumlah peminat seni tomoi yang ramai di negara ini.

"Kita jangka, musim kedua TCA akan ditonton lebih 1.2 bilion penonton kerana ia akan disiarkan ke 50 negara melalui siaran AXN," katanya sambil memaklumkan, 18 peserta dari 17 negara akan bertanding merebut wang tunai RM1 juta.

Malaysia the Surprise Team at Arafura Games

Malaysia hasn’t been known as a powerhouse in the sport of Muaythai but this changed at this year’s Arafura Games. The Malaysian National team was the surprise package of the competition surprising spectators with outstanding results and sportsmanship. The team won two gold medals, one silver, two Bronze and earned an award for being the most improved muaythai team.

Even the Australian team captain had to bow down to Malaysia in the Final after losing a point decision in front of a packed stadium on Thursday night. Malaysia has a great future in the sport and the world has taken note of the Malaysian Tigers.

Arafura Games

The Arafura Games was a success for the Malaysian Muaythai Team. We tasted victory through Ali and Faizal, even Amin's loss in the finals wasn't all that bad as he put up a good fight against Thailand's Panupan Tanjad, the 3 time IFMA World Champion, Ejo who was supposed to compete in the 45kg or even the 48kg category had to jump up to the 54kg category as there weren't enough competitors in the ligter weights. Mail fought an Iranian fighter inches taller and Azwan being in the 91+ category had his first lesson on why he should cut down on the carbs.

Ejo, Mohd Sukri Hasan, had to face Iranian Mohamad, in the 54kg category, pictured above.We decided let let Ejo have a go and jump 2 classes up so he would get experience in the games. The height difference was obvious but nevetheless Ejo put up a good fight. This guy is amazing. I am sure his Iranian opponent was shocked Ejo put up such a tough fight but alas the height and weight difference was just too much to overcome.
Some of Mohd Ali Yaakub's, 57kg and below, more notable rounds was against Japan's Iisaka Kazuki in the semi finals, Ali managed to control the match and knocked out Iisaka in the 3rd round. In the finals Ali came up against New Zealand's Geoff Ahipene, who put up a tougher fight than I personally expected but Ali controlled the match and in the end appeared triumphant procuring the gold medal for Malaysia.
Our Mohd Faizal Ramli, the golden elbow, was amazing. In the semi finals Faizal came up against Kota Tsujimoto in the 71kg and below category. Who would have expected that with all that padding Faizal would still managed to yet again down his opponent with a deadly elbow strike to forehead! Faizal TKOed Kota Tsujimoto of Japan in the second round. In the finals, Faizal came up against Australia's team captain Clayton Collyer,student to the famous John Wayne Parr. Here too Faizal controlled the match and won the gold for Team Malaysia.
Mohd Noramin Ibrahim,63.5kg and below, came up against Australia's Mark Crawley in the semi finals, even though Amin is new to the Malaysian Tigers Team, he really fought well and won his semi final fight against Australia's Mark Crawley. But what impressed us most was his fight against the 3 times IFMA World Champion Thailand's Panupan Tanjad, Amin held his own against Panupan and didn't appear intimidated at all and believe me, Panupan is a very intimidating fighter full of skill and confidence. Amin never gave in he kept up a good fight and we were all really proud of his performance. Even though Amin will have a long way to go to beat Panupan,I'm sure he will get there with a lot of training and dedication.
All in all, Team Muaythai Malaysia did really well, contributing 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 bronze medals to Malaysia's medal tally. That's 6 medals for 6 athletes participating! Tahniah!!!

Peninju, muay thai tunjuk garang di Sukan Arafura

PENINJU negara dan atlit muay thai negara berjaya menyumbang empat emas kepada kontinjen negara setelah menamatkan cabaran masing-masing dalam Sukan Arafura di Darwin, Australia semalam.

Peninju skuad elit Majlis Sukan Negara (MSN), Eddey Kalai muncul juara kategori featherweight (57kg) selepas menumbangkan peninju tuan rumah, Brett Mather manakala sebutir emas lagi diperolehi menerusi Mohd Fuad Mohd Redhuan yang menundukkan peninju Indonesia, Frejhon Sahuleka dalam kategori light flywieght (48kg).

Perak tunggal sukan tinju disumbangkan Fernandes Paulis Payong yang tewas kepada peninju tuan rumah, Mark Pevinsky dalam saingan final kategori lightweight 60kg manakala gangsa pula diperolehi Effendy Kalai dalam bantamweight (54kg), Mohd Subrie Khamis (flyweight 54kg) dan Khir Akyazian (64A kg).

Sementara itu, peserta negara dalam sukan muay thai (tomoi siam) turut mencatat kejayaan membanggakan apabila memperoleh dua emas, satu perak dan tiga gangsa dalam pertandingan selama tiga hari yang berakhir semalam.

Pingat emas disumbangkan Mohd Ali Yaakub bagi kategori 57kg yang menewaskan peserta New Zealand, Geoff Ahipene manakala Mohd Faizal Ramli muncul juara kategori 91kg(sepatutnya 71kg ke bawah) ke atas selepas menumbangkan peserta tuan rumah, Clayton Collyer.

Mohd Noramin Ibrahim menyumbangkan perak selepas menjadi naib juara kategori 63.5kg, manakala gangsa diperolehi Mohd Sukri Hassan (54kg), Ismail Ramli (60kg) dan Mohd Azwan Omar (91+kg).

Dalam sukan menembak acara pistol, skuad negara memperolehi dua gangsa menerusi kategori remaja, Nee Keong Khoo dan berpasukan lelaki, Kah Hin Foo, Nee Keong Khoo, Kok Leong Cheng dan Chee Yuen Cheng.

Temasya dwitahunan Sukan Arafura yang membabitkan lebih 30 negara rantau Asia-Oceania selama seminggu itu berakhir hari ini.

Today Amin 60-63.5 is will be our first fighter to enter the ring. He faces an Australian athlete today around 7pm local time.

Arafura Games

As we will be leaving for Darwin today, I probably won't be able to update this blog as often as I'd like. However I will do my best to give you all the latest news and results.
I hope to be able to share the atmosphere surrounding our fighters at this international event.

The Arafura Games, Darwin, Australia

We will be sending a contingent of 11 people to the Arafura Games which will be held in Darwin Northern Australia from the 9th through to the 15 of may.
The contingent will consist of 6 athletes, 2 referees and 3 team officials.

The Malaysian athletes who will be participating in the games are-

Mohd Sukri Hasan-Bantam 51-54kg, Mohd Ali Yaakub-Feather 54-57kg,Ismail Ramli-Light 57-60kg, Mohd Noramin Ibrahim-Light Welter 60-63.5kg,Mohd Faizal Ramli-Welter 63.5-67kg and Mohd Azwan Omar-Super Heavy 91kg+.

We will also be sending 2 referees/jurors Wan Azmi Wan Omar and Md Farek Md Urep to gain experience at international level. This will be Md Farek's second time refereeing at an international event, he was also on duty at the IFMA World Championships at the Tafisa Games in Busan, Korea last year.


The Arafura Games which is IOC and GAISF sanctioned is one of Asia-Pacific's premier sporting events used by emerging champions to gain experience and exposure at a regional level. The next step on will be the SEA Games, Asian Games and World Championships .

We very nearly had to miss the games due to the swine flu outbreak but we were fortunate to get a last minute go ahead from the Ministry of Health to attend the Games.

We would have also liked to include the best athletes from several other camps but unfortunately, upon inquiry and due to the last minute nature of the arrangements, most of these athletes were either injured or engaged else where. We truly hope fighters such as Tengku Shahrizal and other gifted Malaysian Nak Muays will be able to join us in future games. Someone like Tengku, with experience in amateur boxing, would be sure to excel in amateur Muaythai as it is point based sport and much faster than traditional Muaythai.

This kind of exposure at internationally recognised events will prove invaluable to these young athletes. And we hope to see Malaysia's best in the SEA Games at the end of the year. Let us all work hard and be united in building Muaythai in Malaysia and choosing the best to represent our country in these games.

Boxer to spruce up on his English

AFTER securing his spot as the second Malaysian competitor to be in the second season of The Contender Asia, Malaysian Tigers’ Faizal Ramli will need to improve on his communication skills as part of his preparation.

The 19-year-old will be attending English classes for two hours every day while refining his combat skills with a two-month training stint in Thailand before the cameras start to roll at the end of June.

Faizal, who is the fourth of 10 siblings, said he was excited about the opportunity of a lifetime to appear in the reality show.

“However, I am feeling a bit nervous because I am quiet by nature. But, I am willing to put in the effort to overcome my shortcomings and not allow it to prevent me from giving my best shot.

Golden Elbow: Faizal will have to improve on his communication skills.

“This is a chance for me to make the grade and lift my family out of poverty,” he added.

Considering that another exponent Mohd Muinuddin Khadir representing the Malaysian Tigers suffered an early defeat at the recent Super Eight qualifier in Kelantan, Faizal provided the joy for the camp based at the World Muay Thai (WMC) Malaysia Gym in Kelana Jaya.

En route to victory, the lad from Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, maintained his unbeaten run, bringing the impeccable track record up to 41 bouts thus far.

“I did not want to let the people at my village and my team down because they turned up in full force and threw their support behind me. It was a meaningful outing especially savouring the victory in front of the home crowd,” said Faizal, who is also known as the “Golden Elbow”.

In the opening encounter, Faizal subdued seasoned campaigner Khoo Meng Yang (“Red Dragon”) from TNT Kickboxing Malaysia in a bout that went the full distance of three rounds.

He went on to knock out the unknown Wes Jaya of BoxxWarriors Gym with a blow using his trademark elbow in the second round for a place in the final.

“It was a tough match-up against Wes because I have not seen him in action before. For a start, it was harder to predict his moves. Based on my thorough training, I was physically well prepared for the occasion,” Faizal said.

In the other semi-final, another BoxxWarriors Gym representative Abdul Alif Mohd Zulkifli overturned the formbook and sprang a surprise to move on to the final defeating a renowned contender Tengku Shahrizal of Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM).

However, Alif’s campaign came to an end as Faizal floored him with a combination of a knee strike followed by punch to score a perfect finish in the final.

Faizal will return to Lamai Gym in Koh Samui, Thailand, with Malaysian Tigers captain Bernard “Headhunter” Radin to improve on their boxing techniques for a month and the duo will head for Bangkok to gain quality sparring as their final phase preparation.

The 37-year-old Bernard who earned his spot in the King’s Cup in Bangkok, Thailand, in December last year, said the team had faith in Faizal to come through and join him in the highly anticipated show.

“We knew that he had the potential to excel. It took a while for him to believe in his own ability. He certainly proved his worth at the recent qualifiers.

“Faizal was very confident and stayed in control against his opponents. This will be a good stepping stone for us and it will inspire others in the team to keep on striving for good results. Now, our aim is to be worthy ambassadors for the country and stay in contention as long as possible in the show,” he added.

Contrary to what some of you might think, developing fighters is definitely not an easy task. It's like raising a family, each kid (fighter) is different, some better mannered than others, some harder working but all have feelings and emotions and cannot be treated like machines. Like raising a family you get a lot gratification when your fighters do well, eventually you don't only want them to succeed in the ring but in life! Menjaga dan mendidik peninju seperti membimbing anak kita sendiri, ada yang bersopan-santun, ada yang rajin,ada yang kurang berdisiplin........seperti dalam sesebuah keluarga anaknya semuanya berlainan kerenah. Walau bagaimanapun semuanya perlu dijaga seperti adik/anak sendiri dan dilayan dengan adil. Kami bukan sekadar mahu melihat peninju kami berjaya sekarang tetapi juga pada masa depan. Kami ingin melihat peninju kami mencipta nama digelanggang dunia, dan bila tiba masanya bersara, kami berharap peninju kami akan membuka pusat latihan sendiri....... mungkin peninju kami dapat mengacara rangkaian realiti sendiri........seperti Stephan Fox

Mail helps out with Bernard's 5 year old daughter Sasha by the sea, who would've guessed these tougher than nails fighters could be so gentle out of the ring. But don't get me wrong I wouldn't cross with these guys or hurt one of their own as they are fiercly protective of their extended family.Abang Wan and his wife Kak Ani along with Pak Hasan, Pok Nik and Abang 'Contender' were flown out to Port Dickson as a special thanks for a job well done!
Sebagai tanda terima kasih atas pertolongan mereka dalam menjayakan acara Contender Asia Malaysian Qualifier.Pak Hasan-Pengerusi Persatuan Seni Tomoi Kelantan, Abang Wan, Kak Ani, , Pok Nik dan juga Abang 'Contender' telah diterbangkan dari Kota Bharu ke Subang untuk meraikan kejayaan acara kami bersama team 'Tigers' di Port Dickson.

'Thanksgiving' prayers were held for Faizal's recent win and also for the future success of both Bernard and Faizal in the Contender Asia Season II and also all the 'Tigers'.
Majlis 'doa kesyukuran' telah dilangsungkan.

Kami amat bersyukur atas kejayaan Faizal, Bernard dan seluruh pasukan Malaysian Tigers.

And later that night we all celebrated with a barbeque of well marinated chicken and beef. There was also some fish, sotong, sausages, fried rice ...................etc

Malam itu diakhiri dengan hidangan ayam, daging, ikan,sotong panggang..........................
We were fortunate to be treated to fabulous 'kenduri kahwin' food on the way back from Port Dickson. Our 'Team Tigers' members were invited by Saiful, to a family wedding where we were treated to a great meal and karaoke. Where yet again Mat Ropi was the star crooner!
