Muaythai World Championships just around the corner

The IFMA World Championships which will be held from the 27th of Nov until the 5th of Dec is just around the corner. On the 5th December is the Thai King's Cup. Good luck to all our Malaysian participants.

Faizal Malaysian Tigers vs Vuyisile Colossa

Faizal Ramli of the Malaysian Tigers lost to Vuyisile Colossa of South Africa in a close fight last night in Macau. Faizal put up a good fight going the 5 rounds only narrowly losing to Vuyisile who is know for going up agaisnt Yodsenklai, although Vuyisile inevitably losing to Yod he managed to go all 5 rounds!

This was a Thai Kings Cup Qualifier fight.

The classes at The Malaysian Tigers Gym are conducted by our experienced Thai coaches, all ex-champions, and some like Mardsue who is known to to come coach at our gym on occasion are current champions.

Our Malaysian Tigers also help out in conducting some of the classes. Ali, Faizal, Hamdan to name a few.

Though I must admit, its kinda intimidating training with these guys but I know if I train with the best some of their skills are going to rub off on me!!! Anyway what better way to get my mind off work cause these guys keep me on my toes. I get a great work out and I know I'm one step closer to being a better tougher me. Hey maybe someday I'll be a Malaysian Tiger.....well everyone is allowed to dream right!

Kickboxer bounces back with victory over Australian No. 1

MALAYSIAN Tigers’ Mohd Ali Yaakub registered a significant breakthrough at the Supremacy Part Eight in Perth, Australia, recently.
Even the five previous defeats against foreign challengers from Australia, Britain, Russia and Thailand in a higher weight category failed to deter the 23-year-old kickboxer from bouncing back strongly to edge Australian number one Chris “Tiger” White in the 57kg bout.
It was also sweet victory for Ali as he avenged his teammate Mohd Muinuddin Khadir’s (King of Sharks) earlier defeat against the local favourite.
White almost knocked out the heavier Muinuddin featuring in the 63kg section on that occasion.
Ali, who weighs only 54kg, said he was confident going into the ring because his 34-year-old trainer Rung Makate from Thailand took on White twice in his competitive career before going into coaching.
“I had a solid build up with the exposure to gauge my strength against stiffer opponents. I have gained valuable experience losing to them,” he said.

The aggressive White came out charging at Ali to flex his command in the opening round. After an impressive start, he slowed down and opted for a more cautious approach.
“We knew that he was fast. He tried coming in close and combining his shots in the first round.
“In the next round, he was running around the ring evading the assaults. Although Rung did not accompany me for the outing, he told me to take it easy and conserve my energy in the first two rounds before going all out to produce a strong finish in the last three rounds,” Ali said.
In the encounter that went the full distance of five rounds of three minutes each, Ali won the judges’ approval with his clear domination.
World Muay Thai Council (WMC) vice-president Stephen Fox, who witnessed Ali in action, praised him for applying a smart strategy to emerge as the clear winner in three of the five rounds.
“Ali is a complete exponent with sound techniques and skills to approach the fight with plenty of variation. He took his opportunities well on the counter attack. He was not afraid in moving forward to create the opening.
“When the fight was at its peak in the fourth round, White found it hard to cope with Ali’s pace,” Fox said.
In the penultimate round, the highly rated Malaysian contender troubled his opponent, connecting a forceful blow with his elbow on White’s right eye.
“I wanted to strike him in the centre of his forehead. But, it was enough to disrupt his focus and momentum in staying in contention,” said Ali.
Currently, Ali is going through the paces under Rung to prepare for his next assignment at the International Federation of Muay Thai Amateur (IFMA) World Championships in Bangkok at the end of November.
In addition, he will be having a crack at securing the WMC Inter-Continental belt when he takes on the European champion at Singapore on Dec 12.
Ali will be out to make amends after his setback in the opening bout at the world amateur meet last year.
“He is one of the top exponents in his category (51 to 54kg). But, he needs to maintain his high work rate going through the training sessions twice-a-day, six-days-a-week.
Besides the three sparring sessions in a week, Ali’s physical regime includes a 10km run every day and sprinting drills to increase his endurance and speed respectively.

Surprise of the night....after the Mohd Ali Yaakub and Chris White fight the judges announce a draw.When the judgement was announced everyone was in disbelief, feeling that Ali should have won. Chris White being a true sportsman came up and hugged Ali and gave his trophy to him announcing to the crowd that Ali was the one who deserved to win. Everyone cheered supporting Ali and also cheered in support of Chris's amazing sense of sportmanship.

This is what Muay Thai is all about, true sportsmanship and true heros, congatulations to Ali and Chris for showing an outstanding amount of both attributes.

Muaythai friends, once again October will witness some fantastic muaythai events from all over the globe!!

First of all, congratulations must go out to the South American Muaythai Confederation for organising the South American Confederation Cup in Chile. A big thank you to the confederation for organising yet another successful and spectacular event.

OCTOBER ACTION!!!

Hong Kong will see two mega events this month with Planet Battle on the 7th and the WMC I-1 Grand Slam on the 22nd.

Australia will have two major events with Evolution 18 for the first time in Melbourne and Supremacy in Perth.

The 10th of October will see a fantastic event blending both amateur and professional muaythai bouts in the beautiful city of Torino, host city of the 2006 Winter Olympics.

October 16th will see world class Muay Thai comes back to Calgary. Promoted by CAKMA and Mike Miles Muay Thai, H2H PUNISHMENT promises to be a great night out at the fights.
The United States will be witnessing another international event in Santa Clara, California.

October 31st will see the 3rd Venezuelan Muaythai Championships in San Cristobal City.

Germany will see another King’s Cup Challenge which will decide who will be the representing Germany at His Majesty the King of Thailand’s birthday event.

Malaysia will see the opening of the Z-1 Series.

With so many world class events this month and even more to follow in November, it truly is a testament to the growth of our sport, so let’s keep it up, promoting top class international events!!!

IFMA World Championship 2009

The IFMA World Championships is coming up soon. This year it will be held in Bangkok in honour of His Majesty the King of Thailand's 82nd birthday.


It has been a year since Hamdan Mokhtar, Mohd Ali Yaakub and Khoo Meng Yang participated in the IFMA World Championships, held in Busan, Korea. Khoo Meng Yang brought back a bronze medal. Mohd Ali and Hamdan only losing to the World Champions their respective categories.

Then we participated in the IFMA Arafura Games in Darwin, Australia. Here our team won the 'Most Improved Team' award. Our fighters did well with Faizal Ramli and Mohd Ali Yaakub winning gold medals, Mohd Noramin ,silver and Ismail Ramli, Mohd Sukri(Ejo) and Mohd Azwan(Bob) with bronze medals.

Yet again we will be sending a team to participate in these the World Championships. The participation criteria and weight categories are as listed below-

Evolution 17-Ali losses on points

Everyone thought Ali would get koed by Daddy Kool as what happened to Chris White twice and Aaron Leigh the other Oz champion but Ali proved them all wrong. Ali was not in top form and seemed to have lost his rythm. Maybe due to the disruption to his training routine due to ramadhan but he still gave Daddy Kool a hard time although Daddy Kool controlled most of the rounds with his highly technical fighting skills which makes him still the number 1 fighter in Australia. Never-the-less Ali was honoured to be invited to fight in the Evolution 17 and he fought so well the Australians want him back!!! Ali will fight for the Super 8 championship in Oz very soon.

On another note Cosmo Alexander from Brazil, surprised everyone by beating John Wayne Parr in the semi final and Tum Madsua in the final to be the first fighter to qualify for the Thai Kings Cup Super 8 in Bangkok on the 5th of December.

Ali diramalkan akan tumbang(KO) ketika lawan Daddy Kool sepertimana Chris White(2 kali) dan Aaron Leigh (juara Australia), tetapi walaupun Ali kalah, Ali kalah dengan kiraan mata. Ketika berlawan Ali tidak begitu lincah seperti biasa, mungkin kerana Ali belum sesuaikan diri dengan jadual latihan bulan puasa. Dengan kemenangan ini terbuktinya Daddy Kool 'fighter' nombor 1 di Australia. Walaupun kalah, Ali diminati ramai di Australia dan telah dijemput balik untuk berlawan di Australia untuk kejohanan Super 8.

Dalam kejohanan yang sama, Cosmo Alexander telah menbuat kejutan dengan mengalahkan John Wayne Parr pada peringkat separuh akhir dan Madsua dalam peringkat akhir, dengan kemenangan ini, Cosmo Alexander telah melayakkan diri ke acara Kings Cup di Bangkok, Thailand pada 5 December nanti.

Ali to fight Daddy Cool in Evolution 17, Australia

Saturday the 29th of August is the date fight fans have been looking forward to all year. Evolution 17 brings with it a hard-hitting, action packed card as usual. The best of the best, champions from Australia and across the world.

For one night the Sleeman Centre in Chandler will emulate the battleground of the Coliseum in ancient Rome where our gladiators will fight for reputation, honour and respect. A combination of world champion Muay Thai fighters, glamorous ringside models, a bumping sound system, lighting and visual displays and thousands of fans screaming to back their favorite fighters will ensure the aura of Evolution continues.

The feature at Evolution 17 is a Super 8 Tournament. Eight fighters, the winner must win 3 fights in one night. There are guaranteed to be some wars with three current/former WMC World Title holders in John Wayne Parr, Eugene ‘Boom Boom’ Ekkelboom, and Cosmo Alexander taking on veteran brawlers like the Preacher and Dzhabar. The skill and technique of Soren Eminent-air NTG will always be a great contest against proven up-and-comer Eli ‘Mad Dog’ Madigan should they face off against each other for a second time.
What many fans have come to associate the sport with is the Hollywood style entrance of the pimp himself, Daddy Kool who will be coming out fighting against a highly ranked international opponent(Mohd Ali Yaakub). As if that action is not enough, promoters have also organized guaranteed battles of will and determination in Statti v Sarracino and Thor v Cedric.. This will surely keep the atmosphere charged.
